Game Review: Oldschool Runescape
Runescape. Remember that game you used to play back in
primary school? Those memories of logging on after school, running to Lumbridge
or Varrock with a rune scimitar in your hand, ready to battle monsters. Or
first getting membership to the game, and getting to see what is beyond those
member only gates or ladders. The nostalgia….
If you log onto Runescape today, You’ll find Runescape 3. A game very distant from the game we all remembered and loved, filled with micro transactions and skins , costumes and effects to be purchased with real money. Luckily, Jagex (creators of Runescape) decided to launch “Old-school Runescape” a version of the game as it was in 2007 (the earliest backup of the game they had at the time).
Gameplay –
Runescape is an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Player
Game) so understandably, gameplay is addictive. The grinding nature for progress
of the game and the want to further level and upgrade your account is something
that keeps players actively playing the game and striving for success. Runescape’s
simple screen layout and gameplay makes the game easy to pick up and dive into.
The game’s simple graphics are purely a nostalgic piece and provide a unique aspect
to the game.
Old-school Runescape has 23 skills. Ranging from Combat to
gathering skills , to artesian / creative skills. This means the player does
not need to decide what type of character they will be at the start of the
game, rather they are able to choose when and how they level their character.
The game starts you off on “Tutorial Island” which gives you a quick run around of the skills, and insights to your opportunities and risks.
Oldschool Runescape has a good economy and good update schedule.
Because of the playerbase not liking the decisions that jagex made with the
current game of Runescape 3, the player base must vote in every update. This
allows the community to have total control over what comes into the game and what
stays out of the game , which makes the playerbase happier.
In conclusion, Runescape is a game that is very different to
how most remember it. Old School Runescape is the game that we all love and
remember, and is still a classic and will be a pleasure to play for those who
use to play the game, and those who have not played the game before will be
sure to enjoy it aswell!
