FFXIV is an MMORPG set in the world of Eorzea and the second MMO in Square Enixs Final Fantasy series. The game first became available in September 30th 2010 but was heavily criticized for the quality of the game and as a result "FFXIV: A Realm Reborn” was announced, which was essentially the game revamped with a better engine, server structure, game play, story and interface. Since then the game has been considered a great success.

FFXIV follows the traditional MMO system in using the class triad, namely, tanks, healers and attack classes. Although the system is not as innovative as compared to games such as Wildstar or Guild Wars, the game provides interest through the uniqueness of each class, and how essential it is to have the right combination in a team. There are 9 total classes; Paladin, Warrior, Monk, Dragoon, Bard, Black Mage, Summoner, White Mage, Scholar). As a result of following the traditional MMO system, players can appreciate the familiar feel of the game when transitioning from other MMO games or returning to the genre.
The game begins at a very slow pace, with the player progressing through the main story being slowly introduced to the various concepts of the MMO. For a new player this can be a blessing as for some people the different pace and play style can take time to adapt to, however to the hardened veteran or quick learner this slow progression can often times feel extremely boring.

FFXIV remains very playable even as you reach end game. The 11 non battle classes allow the player to be kept busy with other tasks such as crafting and gathering. The inclusion of these classes expands the scope of the game from just a battle orientated game to one with an economy which players can attempt to predict and control. The wider scope of the game allows all kinds of players to be kept entertained and interested.
As an MMO, FFXIV has a very supporting, helpful and friendly community. Players will often find others who are willing to help at every turn if they go asking. The Guilds or Free Companys in FFXIV are an example of the games focus on being a community driven adventure.

FFXIV “A Realm Reborn" has won many awards, these include; “Most disability accessible Game of 2013”, “IGN’s Best Overall MMORPG Award” and “Special Award” as well as being nominated for various other awards including “Best RPG category”. The awards that the MMO has received is a testament to the quality and playability of the game as well as the effort that has been put behind by Square Enix. The praise that FFXIV “A Realm Reborn” has received is a stark contrast to the reception of the first release as discussed earlier shown by the original release being nominated for “Most Disappointing game”.
Overall the newly released FFXIV “A Realm Reborn” proves to be a very entertaining and enjoyable adventure, one that i would definitely recommend to a player new to the genre and looking to join a welcoming community.
Thanks,
Michael
